Ed & Tech must-reads 091225
by Dr. Colin Simpson PhD and ASCILITE attendee

As I mentioned last week, I’ve been at the ASCILITE (Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education) conference in Adelaide. 3 or so days of deep diving into the latest work in ed & tech in the company of many of my third space colleagues and friends. It’s a wonderful conference with a very supportive vibe and great enthusiasm for the space. Excellent keynotes from Kelly Matthews (UQ) on the role of emotion in education, Michael Henderson (Monash) on feedback with AI, Lynn Gribble (UNSW) on redesigning education in light of AI, and Mollie Dollinger (Curtin) on the challenges of addressing AI in wholly online teaching. (Noticing a theme?) I do wonder why conferences don’t include the keynotes in the proceedings - script and slides?
A big part of the appeal of this event for me is the extent to which it has been embraced by third space practitioners - I would estimate that it is around a 50/50 split and for several years now there has been a rich array of 3S themed presentations. With more than 90 sessions (including Pecha Kuchas and panels and whatever our (well received) TELedvisors Network “Battle of the Bots” was), it’s hard to pull out a small selection of must reads but I will note that the proceedings are all now available online and there is a wealth of stuff to get through.
