HE Collegiality around GenAI in a Gemini
MidJourney attempt at a 70s Holden Gemini parked on grass in front of a bustling city
Tim Fawns (Monash) offers a hopeful summary of two AI in HE events held last week at USyd. One was a round-table of sorts for institutional leaders to brainstorm local policies to satisfy the upcoming TEQSA requirements on GenAI, the other a showcase of current practice-in-practice. (I will def be sharing links to recordings to this when they are available). Among his observations are that there is a positivity in the sector around this work and a decided lack of posturing. (Perhaps because everyone knows we have much to learn). The leaders’ group recognised the need for serious investment in taking this seriously. How/if this happens will be worth watching but Fawns commented that necessary savings might be found in overdue work to rethink how assessment is meaningfully undertaken. Well worth a read.
Google has renamed their GenAI platform Bard to Gemini. Honestly, it is hard for me to not think of the car my nana used to drive after getting her license at the age of 69. Reports on this Gemini are mixed - honestly, with the combination of influencers, AI shills and AI generated content in feeds these days, it’s hard to know what is good any more. The premium version costs $33 p.m, the same as MS CoPilot.
It's all about the process from The Educationalist
This is more on the Ed than the Tech side but Alexandra Mihai always has something interesting to say. In this case, she is talking about the need for us to reconsider how we might renew interest in the process of learning, rather than the outcomes. Rethinking learning goals and remembering that Reflection is not an afterthought stood out for me but there are many other ideas in this piece.
